The Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre will be hosting the Horse Nations Indian Relay Racing’s 2022 Championship of Champions event in September.
Horse Nations Indian Relay Council president Calvin Ghost Bear says the three days of racing will be held Friday, September 23 through Sunday, September 25, 2022.
Teams from Canada have also been invited to participate.
Ghost Bear says relay teams are made up of four people and three horses.
Ghost Bear says Indian Nation has a long history of relay racing.
To qualify for the Championship of Champions, an Indian Relay team must either win one of the 11 Horse Nations sanctioned races held prior to the finals or must compete in at least two of the race events. Ghost Bear says there could be 40-50 teams competing.
