People can take guided tours of the Pierre Community Orchard this (Tues.) evening from 5:30-7.
Arbor Board chairman Art Smith says the orchard is located at 1201 East Sully Avenue.
Smith says having a community orchard is a unique feature for Pierre.
The Pierre Community Orchard Project is on 6,400 square feet of city-owned land and features 22 fruit trees including pear, peach, plum, apple and cherry.
Once the Orchard is fruitful, community members will be invited to harvest the fruit for the local food pantry, community meals and personal use. Fruit trees can take several years to start producing fruit.
