A home received a substantial amount of damage during a fire last night (June 13, 2022) northeast of Pierre.
Pierre Rural Volunteer Fire Department Chief Doug Hinkle says the call came about 7:15pm CT to a residence on Prairie Place.
Hinkle says some of those providing mutual aid were called away, so he called in more mutual aid because of the hot, humid conditions.
Hinkle says there were some hot spots that were difficult to get to and to extinguish. He says there were structures, vehicles and a propane tank in the farmyard, but none of those were impacted by the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Emergency crews were on scene for approximately 7.5 hours. The Hughes County Sheriff’s Office and AMR ambulance service also responded to the scene.
