Avera hospitals and clinics across South Dakota are expanding their abilities to connect patients and medical providers remotely.
Where it’s available, patients can use Virtual Visits to connect with Avera providers. The technology is being added to new sites each day.
In Pierre, patients should call the clinic to set up a virtual visit at 605-224-5901. Both the AveraNow and AveraChart systems will allow telehealth appointments to take place.
Patients can use two platforms and a variety of communication devices to meet with providers via video chat. Patients with video-capable mobile devices can download the free AveraNow app. Once installed, users create an account, then they can use the app to take part in a Virtual Visit appointment with their provider.
People also can use the service via AveraChart on mobile devices or on desktop or laptop computers. They first visit AveraChart.org and create an account. Then download and install the Meditech MHealth app. Once complete, mobile users should return to AveraChart and pick the “Virtual Visit Check-in” choice on the app. Computer users would choose the “Check-in” option on the AveraChart website and follow the directions.
Guidelines are available for patients to help them set up and prepare for their online appointment at avera.org/virtual-visits.
