AUGUST 20, 2022:
A 50 year old woman from Salem has been identified as the person killed in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 16, 2022) four miles northeast of Farmer, SD, in Hanson County.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates Donna Ratliff was driving a 2004 Dodge pickup westbound on 252nd Street near the intersection with 428th Avenue when she lost control of the vehicle on loose gravel. The vehicle went into the north ditch and rolled.
Ratliff was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Summer Ratliff, the 24-year-old female passenger, was partially ejected from the vehicle, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries, and was transported by ambulance to a Sioux Falls hospital. Neither person was wearing a seatbelt.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
