After several weeks of medical treatment in South Dakota, Governor Kristi Noem is back home in Pierre recovering after a successful back surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Surgeon Dr. Mohamad Bydon says Noem developed an acute condition impacting her lumbar spine. He says she is well on her way to a full recovery and is in excellent health.
Noem says as part of that recovery, she has to abide by certain limitations on activity in order to allow her back to heal properly. In the short term, she says this includes the amount of standing and travel she can do.
Noem says the back injury happened about two months ago and her surgery was last week (Sept. 5-9, 2022).
Dr. Bydon is a neurosurgeon at Mayo Clinic and the Charles B. and Ann L. Johnson Professor of Neurosurgery.
