Jacey Mae earned her angel wings on Thursday, September 8, 2022. She was 12 years old.
Jacey Mae Martin graced us with her presence on December 2, 2009, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Jacey was born to Ryan Martin and Corliss Larrabee. Her older siblings, Brock Thomas and Rylee Jade were anxiously awaiting her arrival. Two years later, Rya Amelia was born and completed the Martin crew. Jacey loved her siblings. The four were always teasing, laughing, and having so much fun together. Jacey loved giving her brother grief but was without a doubt his biggest supporter.
Along with her family, Jacey loved school, choir, the viola, the trombone, running the camera for her dad at numerous sporting events, attending her brother’s athletic activities, going to church with her grandparents, reading big chapter books, TikTok, Snapchat, and being on her phone. Jacey has always been a loving, talented, sassy girl. She was unfiltered, hilarious, and a joy to be around. Jacey’s smile could light up any room and her laugh was contagious. She was known for being unapologetically herself, saying what was on her mind, and loving her family with all she had. Her cousins were her friends, and she loved every single one of them.
Jacey could be found in the bleachers with some parents due to her dad calling games and became extremely close with a lot of them. She enjoyed several trips to Iowa cheering on her brother. She really liked following any kind of team or group where people were united for a good cause. Jacey’s dad could point to the booth and she would set up his equipment and run it from start to finish.
Jacey was involved in numerous extracurricular activities. She was terrific at soccer and especially loved playing in the Hub City Soccer Club. She was also an outstanding pitcher. Jacey made her sports dad appreciate the fine arts as she absolutely loved music and was a part of orchestra, band, and choir. She was incredibly talented in playing the viola and trombone. She was our all-around fine arts girl.
Jacey’s dad and older brother, Brock, moved to Aberdeen in 2006 when her dad got a job working for Wyndham Hotel Group, where he continues to work today. While in Aberdeen, Jacey and her siblings enjoyed going to Wylie Park. Jacey attended school in the Aberdeen Public School System through 6th grade before moving to Ridgeview to be closer to family. Jacey was very excited to be home and be a Timber Lake Panther. She was full of Panther Pride and loved school.
Jacey loved her culture. Her favorite saying before she passed away was “live brown” which became a joke amongst the family because in moving from Aberdeen to Ridgeview there was no fast food, they had to make their own entertainment, had to get groceries, and always be prepared. Anytime anyone would complain she would laugh and say “live brown”. This saying also meant so many other things. She was proud to be Native and to have moved home to Cheyenne River.
Jacey loved to use the riding lawn mower, she was the go-to girl for all the mowing and even wanted to do it at night to impress her Uncle Vernie. She loved walks on the Moreau River and that meant getting in the mud or water. She would get caught regularly taking pictures coming off the ridge down to White Horse from Ridgeview. Her dad would say “Nice view, huh Jacey?” and she would respond, “For sure!”
Jacey will be missed by all who had the chance to meet her. She was someone that you loved instantly and it wouldn’t take long before she had you laughing. Her personality was fiery and her soul was sweet.
She is survived by her dad, Ryan Martin, brother, Brock Thomas (Taylor), sisters, Rylee Jade and Rya Amelia, special friend, Melissa Allison, her children, Adalyn, Abigail, Aleigha, and Andrew, mom, Corliss Larrabee, grandparents, Eddie Jewett and Tom Eagle Staff, Uncle Robert (Aunt Lisa) Martin, Uncle Francis (Aunt Rabecca) Eagle Staff, Uncle Chris Eagle Staff, Uncle Gage Jewett, Aunt Sal Jewett, Aunt Rebecca (Chantry) Norman, Uncle Cole (Aunt Amanda) Martin, Aunt Dani (Uncle Matt) Scott, Aunt Lahnee (Uncle Willie Colson) Martin.
