Remember that guy from the ’70s who said Queen Elizabeth “ain’t no human being” and called the monarch a “fascist regime”? Well, he’s angry with his old bandmates for trying to capitalize on the Queen’s death.
Obviously, I’m talking about Johnny Rotten. He’s blasting the surviving members of the Sex Pistols for allegedly trying to make a buck off her demise by licensing the song “God Save the Queen”.
In a statement on Twitter, he says the rest of the band and their management have, quote, “approved a number of requests” against his wishes.
Johnny said that he finds this, quote, “tasteless and disrespectful to the Queen and her family at this moment in time.” Unfortunately there’s nothing he can do about it because they have a “majority rules”-type agreement.
Johnny added that he’s never supported the monarchy, but he feels that the family, quote, “deserves some respect in this difficult time.” Which is very human of him, but not terribly punk.
