Let’s enjoy some Feel Good Friday stories to wrap up September.
1. A man in Maine scored a fabulous estate sale find when he bought a framed page of Latin music notations for $75. It turned out to be a page from a 13th century manuscript, and the single page is worth up to $10,000. The buyer showed it to his former professor from Colby College, and she and another scholar identified it as a page from The Beauvais Missal. When intact, the 309-page prayer book was used by a priest for a liturgy, At some point, the book was broken up into single pages for sale. The buyer intends to keep it.
2. You never know where you’ll meet your soul mate: Four years ago, a 37-year-old woman from Detroit was training for a marathon to lose weight after a divorce. And she started chatting with a runner from England on an online forum. She eventually flew 3,700 miles to London for their first date. Now they’re married, living in her hometown, and just had a baby.
3. An animal shelter in Pennsylvania went viral after posting photos of each dog getting a McDonald’s double cheeseburger as a special treat. Someone who’d previously adopted a dog bought about 40 of them. (Here are the photos.)
4. A 56-year-old woman in Utah is about to give birth to her own granddaughter. Her daughter-in-law had a hysterectomy after having four boys through in vitro. So she offered to carry the last embryo they have. She’s due in November.
5. While it’s being renovated, 29 staffers at a Mexican restaurant in Denver called Casa Bonita got four months of classes to become bilingual in English and Spanish. The place almost closed for good last year after its owners went bankrupt. But Trey Parker and Matt Stone from “South Park” bought it. It was featured in an episode back in 2003.
6. An art museum in Germany is planning a big Dracula exhibit, and they came up with a fun way to do a little good at the same time. They’re partnering with the Red Cross and doing on-site blood donations.
7. People are loving a video of a 29-year-old guy in southwest Florida named Mike Ross who saved a cat stuck in Hurricane Ian. Also, a reporter in Orlando saved a nurse by carrying her through floodwaters after she got stranded in her car. And Good Samaritans saved an older guy from a flooded vehicle near Fort Myers.
8. A World War Two vet in Texas asked for 100 birthday cards for his 100th birthday, and it sounds like the internet delivered. His nursing home threw him a big party, and there was a huge stack of cards for him.
