MITCHELL – The thrilling season for the sophomores of Pierre Governor Boys Golf concluded Tuesday with an excellent performance.
Pierre shot 19-over 595 to finish as the runner-up in the SDHSAA Class AA Boys Golf State Championship at Lakeview Municipal Golf Course. Harrisburg won its first boys golf team title with an 11-over 587.
Pierre was trying for its first boys golf state championship since 1993, but matched second-place finishes in 1992, ‘94 and ‘99.
Nick Bothun tied for fourth for the Governors at three-over 147. He shot 77 on Tuesday after a 70 Monday. Cool and rainy conditions caused most scores to rise on Tuesday.
Lincoln Houska, however, shot a 72, and tied for 11th at seven-over 151. Houska actually improved seven shots from Monday’s 79. Houska tied with teammate Sawyer Sonnenschein, who had an 80 Tuesday after a 71 Monday.
Jack Bartlett also improved on Tuesday with a 74 after a Monday 78, and his eight-over 152 tied for 13th.
Luke Olson tied for 16th at nine-over 153 (75-78).
Charlie Simpson shot 184 (91-93).
