Oymyakon, located in Russia, is known as the coldest inhabited place on Earth. With temperatures dropping as low as minus 128.6 degrees Fahrenheit, it’s no surprise that the locals have come up with creative ways to stay warm. For example, residents leave their cars running all day to keep the engines from freezing, and they even have a special kind of vodka that won’t freeze in the harsh temperatures. Despite the chilly weather, the people of Oymyakon have managed to build a community and even host a yearly ice festival to celebrate their endurance.
