Another week is in the books so that means it’s time for some Feel Good Friday stories….
1. Firefighters in Michigan pulled a guy from a Jeep that flipped on a set of train tracks last Friday, and their dash-cam got it on video. A train barreled through and nailed his Jeep 20 seconds later.
2. A young dolphin got into a creek in Clearwater, Florida this month, and couldn’t find its way to the ocean for over two weeks. So 28 people teamed up to help it. Its only way out was through a gap under a small bridge. So they stood shoulder-to-shoulder in the creek to make a wall of people the dolphin couldn’t get past. They slowly walked together in a line, and corralled it until it got past the bridge and swam off. Employees from an aquarium helped organize the rescue, and posted a video of the whole thing online. (Here’s the video.)
3. No one knew about this guy’s good deed until now: An 80-year-old Air Force vet named Hody Childress passed away in Alabama this month. And for nearly a decade, he’d been giving $100 a month to his local pharmacy to cover people who couldn’t afford their medications. He told his kids shortly before he died. Until then, the only one who knew was the pharmacist, and he swore her to secrecy.
4. A 10-year-old girl in Rhode Island named Scarlett Doumato sent a letter to her local police, asking for a DNA test to prove Santa is real. And they actually agreed to help her out. She included a half-eaten Oreo, and some carrots that looked like they’d been gnawed on by reindeer. The results are still pending, but they’ve already gathered additional evidence. Someone’s security camera got a shot of a possible reindeer in the area. And eyewitnesses in her neighborhood saw a man in red clothes on the night of December 24th. Police say he’s currently considered a “person of interest.”
5. A three-year-old in the U.K. just became one of the youngest people ever accepted into Mensa, the high-IQ group. He taught himself to read by the time he was 26 months old, and can already count to 100 in six different languages.
6. Here’s a fun new trend: A town in Maine just approved a five-year-old girl’s permit to keep a unicorn in her yard if she ever finds one. Los Angeles County just did the same thing last month after a six-year-old applied.
7. A Delta flight attendant kept a passenger calm when he found out she was deathly afraid of flying. A photo of him sitting in the aisle and holding her hand is making the rounds. The person who posted it said he explained every sound and bump to her during their flight from Charlotte to New York. (Here’s the photo.)
8. A Chiefs season ticket holder found a seven-week-old kitten in the stadium during their playoff game against the Jaguars on Saturday. She picked her coat up from under her seat, and there it was. She happens to work at a vet’s office, so she’s finding it a permanent home. For now, it’s named “Sandy Reid” after Andy Reid, the Chiefs’ head coach. (The Chiefs won that game 27 to 20, and play the Bengals this Sunday.)
9. A quick-thinking seven-year-old girl in Michigan immediately called for help after her great-grandmother got her leg stuck under a rolling SUV in a driveway. She apparently thought it was in park . . . but it wasn’t. When the SUV started moving, the great grandma tried to stop it because the seven-year-old was inside. But instead, it was the girl who ended up saving HER. The grandmother is in the hospital recovering. (Here’s news video.)
10. An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper came to the rescue of a cat that was stranded on a busy highway. The cat was taken to the Humane Society, where it was named Trooper. And Trooper has already been adopted.
11. A rescue dog from Rhode Island named Joey will appear on Animal Planet’s “Puppy Bowl” next month. Joey only has two legs . . . he doesn’t have his front legs . . . but he’s otherwise perfectly healthy.
12. A woman in the U.K. turned 100, and her secret is, quote, “Avoid talking to strange men and you’ll be just fine.” She also said she spends a lot of time with children, which keeps her young at heart.
