South Dakota feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 215,000 cattle on feed on Feb. 1, 2023, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This inventory was down 9% from last year.
Placements during January totaled 40,000 head, up 8% from 2022.
Fed cattle marketings for the month of January totaled 33,000 head, up 10% from last year.
Other disappearance during January totaled 2,000 head, unchanged from last year.
