FULL STORY: A horse died of cardiac arrest last week on the set of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2.
The horse was exercised by its trainer before rehearsals and hadn’t shown any prior health problems. It was one of about 30 horses on set. The company who provides the horses said it’s their first on-set animal death.
PETA is now calling on the show to stop exploiting horses, and use CGI ones instead.
An executive said, quote, “It seems that living underground with the orcs is par for the course for the producers . . .
“They have the option to use humane methods that wouldn’t run vulnerable horses to death on set . . . no one wants to see a spinoff for TV with torment as the theme.”
