A public hearing was held for a concentrated animal feeding operation and cheese plant during the planning and zoning portion of Tuesday’s Walworth County Commission meeting. The commission decided to approve the application for a conditional use permit, contingent on a new haul road agreement being entered into. Changes in the application include the herd number increasing from three thousand to five thousand six hundred head of cattle, and the size of the cheese plant decreasing from seventy thousand to thirty thousand square feet. They also approved the application for a variance permit from 300 to 100 feet on section 10, southeast corner.
Jennifer Andree visited with the commissioners on the negative aspects of solar farms, including the noise, health risks, and damage to wildlife.
For the Highway Department, the commission approved a funding agreement with South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks for road improvement on an access road to Thomas Bay.
Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen updated the commissioners on G.I.S. mapping and radios for all E.M. responders.
Sheriff Josh Boll informed the board of vehicles in his department that will soon need to be replaced.
Randy Hanson of Stantec gave the commission a report on financial assurance for the landfill, and the commission approved some surplus items at the landfill that will be destroyed.
For the Treasurer’s Office the commission approved a resolution for charging a $25.00 processing fee for mail-in titles, interstate titles, or initial registration applications. The wording in the resolution will state that the Treasurer’s Office “may” charge the fee.
Equalization date was set for April 11th at 9am.
