FEBRUARY 16, 2024:
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has announced that a Yankton man has been sentenced to 85 years in prison after he had earlier pled guilty to First Degree Manslaughter in connection to a stabbing death that occurred May 22, 2023, in Yankton.
Adrian Lund, 32, was sentenced Friday (Feb. 16, 2024) in Yankton County Circuit Court. He entered his guilty plea in January (Jan. 19, 2024).
Lund is charged in the stabbing death of Timber Cournoyer at a Yankton residence. She died May 23. 2023 in a Sioux Falls hospital.
“This sentence hopefully brings some comfort to Timber’s family,” said Jackley. “Thank you to the law enforcement officers and prosecutors who worked on this case.”
The investigation was done by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Yankton Police Department. The Attorney General’s Office and the Yankton County State’s Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case.
JANUARY 20, 2024:
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has announced that a Yankton man has pleaded guilty to First Degree Manslaughter in connection to a stabbing death that occurred May 22, 2023, in Yankton.
Adrian Lund, 32, entered the plea Friday (Jan. 19, 2024) in Yankton County Circuit Court. He will be sentenced at 1 p.m., Feb. 16.
Lund is charged in the stabbing death of Timber Cournoyer at a Yankton residence. She died May 23, 2023, in a Sioux Falls hospital.
As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend an 85-year prison sentence for Lund.
The investigation was done by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Yankton Police Department. The Attorney General’s Office and the Yankton County State’s Attorney’s Office are prosecuting the case.
MAY 24, 2023:
Yankton Police Officers on Monday (May 23, 2023) responded to a report of an assault in the 700 block of Walnut. Upon arrival officers located a female victim who was seriously injured and rendered medical aid. Once the victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance, officers began investigating the incident. The female victim later died from her injuries.
In a release, Police Chief Jason Foote says during the investigation a person of interest was identified AS 31-year-old Adrian Vaughn Lund of Sioux City. Foote says Lund was located and arrested. He has been charged with second degree homicide, aggravated domestic assault and possession of a controlled substance.
Information on bond and a court date has not yet been released.

Lund has tattoos on his right hand, both arms have tattoo sleeves and he has a tattoo on his left ankle. Lund is approximately 6’ tall, with black hair, brown eyes, weighs approximately 165 pounds with a slender build. Foote says Lund may be armed and should not be approached.
