JUNE 22, 2023:
After working with a shortage of staff for the two years he’s been in office, the Hughes County Sheriff is making some progress in hiring employees.
Sheriff Patrick Callahan told county commissioners at their meeting yesterday (June 21, 2023) a group of new detention deputies will begin three weeks of training tomorrow (June 23, 2023).
He says doing their training together helps create a “squad mentality” for working together.
Callahan says he’s also making adjustments with trustees inmates.
There are still job openings at the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office and Jail. Callahan says anyone wanting more information should contact his office (605-773-7470).
The Hughes County Jail has contracts to house federal and state prisoners, as well as prisoners from about 18 surrounding counties.
