MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK, Wash. (AP) — Mount Rainier National Park officials say search crews have found and recovered the body of a man matching the description of a solo climber reported missing. Officials said Tuesday (June 6, 2023) that 80-year-old Dawes Eddy of Spokane, Washington, embarked on a solo climb on May 30 and was last seen that night heading up hill on an area of the mountain known as Cathedral Gap. Officials say park rangers were notified Thursday that he hadn’t returned as expected and began searching likely climbing routes. On Monday night, officials say two mountaineering guides spotted an unresponsive climber in a crevasse. A team recovered the body Tuesday. The Pierce County Medical Examiner will identify the climber.
