The Walworth County Commission has voted to table an opt out to 2024. At Thursday’s (06/22/23) regular meeting Commission Chairman Jim Houck explained how they figured the numbers for the next two years.
Commissioner Kevin Holgard was the lone “no” vote, saying he preferred to wait until after the upcoming budget meetings, the first of which is set for Tuesday, June 27th, at 9:00am.
Highway Department
The board approved a request to occupy a Right-Of-Way along 293rd Avenue North and across 124th Street, north of the county line for installation of a water line.
Highway Superintendent Gary Byre reported that representatives of KLJ Engineering have begun the research on developing a 5-year plan, and they would like the County to apply to the State for funding.
Byre gave the commissioners the timeline on the project.
Also for the Highway Department, the commission approved authorizing overtime pay to highway employees who want to work overtime on the current chip sealing project; and they passed a motion to charge the entire cost of equipment needed for blading private roads to the person requesting the work.
Emergency Management
The board approved the purchase and installation of video displays in the commission room. Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen said in the long run it will save the county the money it currently pays individuals to attend meetings in person. Grand total on the project will be almost $4,000.00, with the money coming out of the building and maintenance fund.
Commission meeting 6/22/2023.
