JUNE 29, 2023:
South Dakota House Majority Leader Will Mortenson of Pierre is spending a few days at the US-Mexico border this week (June 28-30, 2023) as part of a group wanting to get a first hand look at the conditions. Other lawmakers on the trip are Senate Majority Leader Casey Crabtree and Representative Tony Venhuizen.
Mortenson says they’ll meet with border patrol agents and see some of the humanitarian centers.
The trip is sponsored by the group Americans for Prosperity.

South Dakota House Majority Leader Will Mortenson of Pierre is traveling to the US-Mexico border today (June 28, 2023) as part of a group wanting to get a first hand look at the conditions.
Mortenson says they’ll meet with border patrol agents and see some of the humanitarian centers.
Governor Kristi Noem announced earlier this month (June 1, 2023) that she will be deploying at least 50 South Dakota National Guard troops to the southern border later this summer.
Mortenson says he’s looking forward to getting some perspective from National Guard soldiers currently at the border so he knows what South Dakota’s soldiers will be facing when they get there.
The trip is sponsored by the group Americans for Prosperity.

South Dakota House Majority Leader Will Mortenson of Pierre is part of a group heading to the US-Mexico border this week (June 28-30, 2023) to get a first hand look at the situation.
Mortenson says they’ll meet with border patrol agents and see some of the humanitarian centers.
Mortenson says there’s a diverse group of people going on the trip.
South Dakota has deployed National Guard troops to the southern border in the past and Governor Kristi Noem announced earlier this month (June 1, 2023) that she will be deploying at least 50 South Dakota National Guard troops to the southern border later this summer.
