PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Trappers played well enough but not good enough to win on Monday night as they lost a pair of one run games to the Western Nebraska Pioneers in Expedition League baseball in Gehring, Nebraska. The Pioneers won game one 3-2 as Jason Fontenot scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 7th inning for Western Nebraska. In the nightcap, the Pioneers again scored late to record a 5-4 victory. Tyler McDonald went the distance in the opener to take the loss as he allowed zero earned runs on 6 hits. Landon Badger had a RBI single for the Trappers who outhit the Pioneers 7-6 but 3 errors came back to haunt Pierre. In the nightcap again the Trappers outhit the Pioneers 9-5 but a 4 run 5th inning was all that Western Nebraska needed to rally for the win. Zane Phelps started and took the loss going 5 innings and allowed all 5 runs. The Trappers fall to 11 and 16 on the season as they wrap up their series with the Pioneers tonight in the Nebraska Panhandle.
