PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team split an American Legion baseball doubleheader Wednesday night with Rapid City Post 320 in Rapid City. Post 8 posted a 4-2 win in the opener but Rapid City bats unloaded on Pierre pitching for a 18-8 win in the nightcap. In the opener, Pierre was limited to 5 hits but took advantage of 4 Post 320 errors to claim the win. Jake Mayer and Maquire Raske each had a hit for Pierre while Mayer, Garrett Stout and Gray Zabel each had an RBI. Carson Tschetter picked up the win lasting 6 innings and Austin Hoss pitched a scoreless 7th for the save. Post 320 combined for 8 hits in the game. In the nightcap, Rapid City broke open a tight game with a 6 run 4th inning and added 4 more in the 5th and 1 in the 6th as the game was called on the mercy rule after 6 innings. Post 320 outhit Pierre 16-8 in the contest as Zane Hailey had 4 hits and 5 RBI’s to lead the way. Garrett Stout had 3 hits for Pierre. The doubleheader split leaves Pierre’s record at 11-11 on the season. They take the next two days off and will travel to Minot to compete in a tournament over the weekend.
