PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Trappers scored 6 runs in the first inning and were shutout the rest of the way as the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs rallied for a 7-6 Expedition League win in Minot, N.D. on Thursday night. Ken Scott homered to lead Pierre’s 11 hit attack with most of the damage coming in the first inning off of Souris Valley starting pitcher Jarrett Whorf who settled down and went 7 innings in a no decision. The Lewis Division leading Sabre Dogs chipped away with 3 run in the third off of a 3 run home run from EJ Ranel. They added two in the fifth and scored the tying run in the 8th and winning run in the 9th. Scott had his team leading 29th RBI for Pierre and Jack Stamper drove in his 26th run in the season in Pierre’s 6 run first inning. Jackson Bak started and went 5 innings for the Trappers as 4 pitchers could not hold the Sabre Dogs off of the scoreboard. Joseph Brazil pitched the ninth and took the loss for Pierre which snapped a two game win streak and fell a full 10 games behind the Sabre Dogs in the Lewis Division standings. The two teams play again tonight but the scene switches to Hyde Stadium for a 7:05 pm first pitch for Fireworks Friday.
