BRANDON – Post 8 split a Legion doubleheader to close the regular season Saturday with Brandon at First National Bank Field, with both results being most decisive. Brandon Valley won the first game 18-4 before the Eights rallied to win 11-3 in the nightcap.
Game 1 – Brandon Valley 18, Post 8 4
Brandon Valley scored 11 runs in the second inning and the game’s first 18 tallies. Sam Sejnoha had a grand slam for the Lynx and Dawson Mork drove in three runs.
Post 8 scored all their runs in the fifth inning on a two-run double by Matthew Coverdale and a two-run single by George Stalley.
Game 2 – Post 8 11, Brandon Valley 3
Ridge Leimbach hit a go-ahead two run single in a five-run third inning that gave Post 8 (9-26) the lead for good. Spencer Easland hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs. Jett Zabel also drove in two and was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs and six hits and four in two-thirds innings.
Post 8, who finished 6-18 against South Dakota teams, will play in the first round of the state American Legion tournament in a best-of-three series on the road starting on Thursday.
