PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Trappers took out some of their frustration of a pair of one run losses in a doubleheader on Monday with a resounding 16-4 pounding of the Western Nebraska Pioneers Tuesday night in Expedition League Baseball in Gehring, Nebraska. The Trappers scored 6 runs in the first three innings to set the tone and added 9 more in the 5th and 6th innings to break a 3 game losing skid. Pierre had 16 hits including 4 home runs which featured a pair of 3 run shots by Zane Phelps. Ken Scott and Pierre native Landon Badger also homered for the Trappers. Badger had 3 hits and 3 RBI’s on the night and Ken Scott added 3 RBI’s in the win. Phelps had the big night hitting a pair of 3 run home runs. Jackson Bak was strong on the mound as he gave the Trappers 7 innings of 2 run baseball allowing 8 hits and striking out 8. Alex Sheets pitched the final two innings of relief. The win improves the Trappers record to 12-16 on the season. After a night off, the Trappers will wrap up the pre All Star portion of their schedule with a 3 game home series hosting the Casper Horseheads beginning tomorrow night at Hyde Stadium.
