South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has signed an executive order (2023-12) declaring a disaster in Edmunds and Spink counties.
Edmunds and Spink counties incurred damages from severe spring flooding but didn’t qualify for FEMA money. However, the two counties do qualify to receive disaster relief funds from the Federal Highway Administration.
In June (June 2, 2023), Noem signed an executive order (2023-08), declaring a disaster in Hand, Potter, Faulk, Brown, Clark, Codington, Day, Grant, Marshall and Roberts counties, along with the Lake Traverse Indian Reservation. A Presidential Disaster Declaration then allowed the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help those local governments.
