VERMILLION, S.D.—As the track and field season rolls around next spring, South Dakota’s track and field team will debut its largest roster in program history with 125 student-athletes in total. USD Director of Track and Field Lucky Huber oversees the program with 78 women and 47 men on its roster. This season’s roster welcomes 40 newcomers, with 31 freshmen and nine transfers, split nearly evenly between the men and women. Of this group of newcomers, 26 hail from the regional states of South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota. There are 34 student-athletes who will represent their home state across their chest this season, nine of whom will do so for the first time. Athletes from central South Dakota on the USD Roster include distance runner Carmelita Shouldis of White River, Thrower Laurel Ketelhut from Chamberlain, distance runner Elle Coyle of Philip, hurdler Phoenix Choal of Reliance and Lyman High School and jumper Jarek Kindle from Miller.
