HURON, S.D. – The Oahe Capitals Varsity hockey team split a pair of games over the weekend. They dropped a 5-3 verdict to Watertown on Saturday for their first loss in the league but bounced back with a 5-3 win over Huron yesterday (Sunday). After a scoreless first period, Raef Briggs scored twice in the second period as Oahe jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Spencer Wedin and Jackson Lee added goals. Andrew Gordon added a goal in the third for Oahe who out shot Huron 36-23 and won for the second time this season over the All Stars. On Saturday it was a different story, as Watertown scored 3 third period goals to record the win. The Capitals led 3-2 after 2 periods ona first period goal from Talon Greise and two second period goals from Caden Davis and Spencer Wedin. The Capitals outshot the Lakers 35-30 in the game.
ABERDEEN, S.D. – After scoring 13 goals in Huron on Saturday to win their second straight game of the season, the Oahe Lady Capitals were flat on Sunday as they traveled to Aberdeen and got whomped 15-2 by the league leading Aberdeen Cougars. Aberdeen scored 5 goals in the first period before the Lady Capitals got on the scoreboard 19 seconds into the second period on a goal from Amy Gilkerson. The Aberdeen scoring parade would continue as they netted 9 unanswered goals including 7 in the second period. Ashton Lee scored a goal at 13:30 of the final stanza for Oahe which fell to 2-5-0 on the season. The Cougars outshot the Lady Capitals 57-9 in the game. On Saturday it was a much better outcome for the Lady Capitals as they jumped to a 2-0 first period lead behind a pair of goals from Lee. The second period was wild as the Lady Capitals scored 5 times to Huron’s 4. Lee added a third goal of the game early in the period and Gilkerson added 3 goals before Lee added a 4 th personal goal. Lee finished the game scoring 3 more goals in the 4th period for a total of 7 on the game. Olivia Swenson and Jesse McTighe added goals for the Lady Capitals who got outshot by the All Stars by a 33-25 total.
