Republican State Representative Stephanie Sauder of Bryant has announced she’ll be a candidate for a State Senate seat in next year’s Republican Primary election.
Sauder is a first term lawmaker, elected to the House of Representatives in 2022.
She’s a former teacher, newspaper publisher and mayor in Bryant.
She announced she’s running for the District 4 Senate seat that’s now held by Senator John Wiik of Big Stone City, who’ll be term-limited next year, leaving the seat open. Wiik also currently serves as the South Dakota Republican Party State Chair.
District 4 includes the counties of Clark, rural Codington, Hamlin, Deuel, Grant and Roberts. The Republican primary election will be June 4, 2024.
