NOVEMBER 27, 2024, UPDATE:
The Fort Pierre All Season Fish Cleaning Station officially held its Grand Opening Tuesday (Nov. 26, 2024), and it was quite the turnout! Mayor Gloria Hanson said in all the ribbon cuttings she had been to in her time as Mayor, she had never seen one with that many faces. This is now believed to be one of only five 24-hour, heated all-season fish cleaning stations in the state.
The project in total from planning to execution took around four years to complete, but the hard work is very evident when you see the beautiful new facility in person.
Equipped with multiple brushes, hoses and stainless steel appliances, the station is now a comfortable and safe place for fishermen and women from all over to clean their catch. Especially in the dead of winter.
To honor those who contributed their time and funds, a sponsor board was placed as a thank you to all those who helped make this dream a reality.
OCTOBER 12, 2023:
Fort Pierre has broken ground (Oct. 12, 2023) on what will be one of about half-a-dozen all season fish cleaning stations in South Dakota.
Nicole Schwinler is one of the people who got the ball rolling to raise money for the project being built by the 5th Avenue boat ramp….but there’s more that’s needed.
Mayor Gloria Hanson says this project is an example of what happens when people in the community work together.
Gerrick McComsey is the owner of Sharpe Enterprises, the company building the all-season fish cleaning station.
The building will be 24 feet by 40 feet and have a price tag of around $240,000 when complete.
