Friday the 13th is a great day to avoid black cats, ladders, and anything sharp . . . unless it’s a TATTOO GUN. (???)
Friday the 13th has become one of the most popular days of the year to get inked up. It’s like Black Friday for tattoo artists, and it’s supposed to bring you good luck. Getting a tattoo of the number “13” is especially popular.
Tattoo shops all over the country have deals. Some of them do it rapid-fire, where you line up, pick from a pre-set menu of simple designs, and the tattoo artists fly through them as fast as possible. (Just what you want . . . a rush job.)
So how did this happen? Most sources credit Oliver Peck, who was married to Kat Von D and a judge on the show “Ink Master” for nine seasons.
He organized a marathon tattoo session in Dallas on a Friday the 13th in 1995. Then in 2008, he set a record by doing 415 tattoos of the number “13” in 24 hours. He says he didn’t come up with it though, he just made it an “event.”
“Vice” did a story on it in 2017, and Google searches for “Friday the 13th tattoos” skyrocketed. Now the same thing happens every Friday the 13th.
