PIERRE – Hot shooting from 3-point range propelled both Pierre Governor basketball teams to early leads that they would not relinquish on their way to comfortable wins over Douglas.
In the girls game at Box Elder, Lennix Dupris hit five treys in the first half to help the Govs to a 41-22 lead at intermission. She would add another in the second half and finish with 26 points to lead all scorers as the Govs topped the Patriots, 65-44. Reese Terwilliger and Ryann Barry added 15 and 11 respectively to give Pierre their seventh win in nine games on the season.
In the boys game at Riggs High Gym, it was Dawson Getz firing on all cylinders early on, hitting four from outside the arc in the first period as the Govs opened a 19-13 lead after one. They extended the lead to 32-15 at halftime as the defense held the Patriots to just one field goal in the second frame. Pierre eventually won the game, 64-37, with Getz leading all scorers with 19 points. Cade Kaiser scored a career high 17, mostly on mid-range jumpers, to help the cause.
The Govs improved to 7-3 on the season and will host Brandon Valley in their next action on Thursday night, while the girls will head to Brandon to play the Lynx.
