Some bills dealing with regulation of various medical related topics in South Dakota are still working their way through the legislative process.
Senator Erin Tobin of Winner is a nurse practitioner who Chairs the Senate Health and Human Services Committee and the Medical Marijuana Oversight Committee. She says patient safety and patient access are top priorities when considering the state’s medical cannabis program.
Tobin says legislators put in a lot of work this past summer looking for solutions on the availability of long-term care.
Tobin says Emergency Medical Services– or EMS– is another area where lawmakers are working to help alleviate a shortage of qualified people.
Today (Jan. 30, 2024) is the 14th day of this year’s 38 day legislative session.
