The new Hughes and Stanley County Emergency Management Director is reactivating the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
Troy Blevins brought updated committee bylaws to the Hughes County Commission this week (Feb. 5, 2024).
Blevins also shared a draft update of the standard operating procedure for activating the storm warning sirens.
Blevins wants the public to know what goes on behind the scenes before storm sirens are activated.
Former Hughes and Stanley County Emergency Management Director and current Hughes County Commissioner Rob Fines lent some of his expertise to the updates as well.
Stanley County Auditor Phil Burtch said her county commission made minor tweaks, but is otherwise also supportive of the updates. Final approval will happen at future Hughes County Commission and Stanley County Commission meetings.
