Mylo (Hess) Huber, age 91, passed away March 4th, 2024 in Pueblo, Colorado. He was born September 14, 1932 to George Huber and Ida Bamesberger Perman. He is proceeded in death by his loving wife ArbaDella who passed in June, 2018. He will be lovingly remembered by daughters Cassie (Dennis) Krall and Tallie (Joe) Koncilja, both of Pueblo. He is fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren; Joseph (Brittni) Madison (Joel) Cranmer, George (Gia), Tanner (Savannah), MacKenzie, Bobby and Teddy. He was very proud of his first great grandchild, Otello Josef born to Joseph and Brittni, and was looking forward to his first great grand-daughter arriving in August to Madison and Joel. He is also survived by brothers Dan (Rebecca) Huber of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and Perry Huber of Hermosa.
Following graduation from Mobridge High, Hess entered the Army in 1953 serving two years state side. Upon his return he met the pretty telephone operator from Java, ArbaDella Biel, at the Brown Palace Lounge. Following their Valentine’s marriage in 1957 they moved to the Huber homestead south of Akaska.
While farming and ranching they raised their girls. Hess was active in the Akaska Commercial Club and Selby Jaycees. In his younger years he enjoyed the Selby Bowling League and coaching the boy’s baseball team in Akaska. He was also active playing slow pitch softball and volleyball in Lowry. Hess and Arba were lifetime members of the Selby Congregational Church.
They enjoyed over 25 years as “snowbirds” in Texas and Arizona. Additionally, they were charter members of the Selby Weekend Loafers camping group. Following Hess’ retirement from farming and ranching his hobby became woodworking. He built birdhouses from scrap wood found in the area and sold his wares at their park in Arizona. He was the builder and Arba was the decorator. His largest creation is a model of the Pueblo Union Depot which is displayed in glass in this historic building owned by Joe, Tallie and family. He and Arba along with Ervin and Priscilla Mueller and Delila Biel traveled to Pueblo for several years and helped with the annual Oktoberfest making the knoephla. They eventually brought the event to Akaska.
The couple loved to entertain, playing card games, dominoes and cribbage. They enjoyed fishing on Lake Oahe with friend Chad Shilling and introduced many of their friends from Canada and Minnesota to this special place called Akaska.
After Arba’s passing Hess moved to Pueblo. After the move he joined two cribbage leagues. He was the oldest player by many years and was dubbed the Cribbage Master. Hess seldom missed attending his grandson’s weekly bowling league. He passed on his love of cribbage to each of his seven grandchildren and played his final cribbage game two weeks ago. He won. We know he and Arba are enjoying a game and she is probably winning!
