The Walworth County Commissioners held a regular meeting on Tuesday, March 5th.
Evan Salverson visited with the commissioners about getting a section line easement to enable drainage into Blue Blanket. The commissioners will ask States Attorney Vaughn Beck to draw up paperwork for the Salversons to sign at the next meeting.
Register of Deeds
The commissioners passed a motion to allow Register of Deeds Brenda DeToy to travel to a one-day workshop on welfare in Pierre.
DeToy also shared some information she now has from Beadle County States Attorney Michael Moore explaining expenses for prisoner care liens.
DeToy told the commissioners she recently talked with someone wanting to make a deal on their poor lien and mentioning that they might just declare bankruptcy to avoid repayment to the County. DeToy says bankruptcy is not an option.
Highway
Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan gave the commission an update on the Bridge Improvement Grants from the South Dakota Transportation Commission.
Hannan said to expect a 2025 project date.
Auditor
The commission approved a salary of $18.51 per hour for Brooke Kirschman in the Auditor’s office.
April meetings
April meeting dates for the Walworth County Commission will be on the 9th and the 23rd, with the Equalization date on April 23rd after the Commission meeting at 1pm.
