FORT PIERRE – Josi Stevens of Pierre took the lead in Girls’ Cutting after the first go Tuesday during the South Dakota High School Finals Rodeo at the Stanley County Fairgrounds. Stevens, who was tied for the lead in season points before the first go, scored 13.0 to improve her season point total to 43.0, four better than Jenna Fulton of St. Lawrence and Landry Haugen of Sturgis. Savannah Loesch of Pierre did not score and remains at 22.0 season points. Fulton scored best among those in the first go with 15.0 points.
Season points leader Dawson Phillips of Winner did best in the first go of Reined Cow Horse, improving her lead over Abby Fox of Redig to 5.5 points with a total of 45.0. Josi Stevens was second best in the first go with 14.0 points. She and Saydee Heath of Colome are even at 38.0
In Boys’ Cutting, Hugh Groves of Faith took the first go, moving to within one point of season points leader and fellow Faith performer Trey Fuller. Fuller leads Groves 43.0 points to 42.0.
