Oahe Capitals hockey players Ava Lavinger, Katie Reiss and Brylee Kafka have been selected to play on the Team South Dakota 14U and 16U USA Hockey Tier II National Tournament teams.
The tournaments are being held Wednesday through Sunday (April 3-7, 2024), with the Girls 16U Team playing in Green Bay, WI, and the 14U Girls playing in Sioux Falls.
Team South Dakota 14U is made up of 18 girls representing eight of the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association’s 11 Affiliates. TSD 16U has 17 players showcasing seven different hockey communities.
To qualify for nationals, these players participated with their teammates in approximately 20 games last fall and have now been practicing together again since early March.
Teams from 14 different states will compete in three rounds of pool play, with the top teams advancing to the championship rounds. The Tier II National Championships will be played Sunday.
Both Team SD teams will hit the ice for their first games on Wednesday (April 3). The 16U Girls will open the tournament with a 3pm game against Honey Baked from Michigan. The 14U Girls take on the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights at 5pm.
