The Pierre City Commission has approved (April 16, 2024) a resolution to allow an on-sale liquor license be issued to Hillsview Golf Course.
Deputy Finance Officer Lacey Walz says the move was made possible by a legislative change in 2023.
Walz says the change in state law was specifically targeted.
Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Tipton says this is something their members have been asking for at the clubhouse. He says the clubhouse manager is willing to expand services to include liquor, along with the beer and wine they currently offer.
The next steps for liquor service at the Hillsview Golf Course Clubhouse are submission of a liquor license application, law enforcement review, a public hearing and then final commission consideration.
Tipton says if all goes as expected, the clubhouse will be able to offer liquor by the time golf season is in full swing. The clubhouse is a full-service facility featuring a pro-shop, snack bar, grill, and seating for 85.
Hillsview is a public par 72 course that features bent grass greens, bluegrass fairways and tees. In 2023, more than 31,500 rounds were played at the city-owned course.
