PIERRE, S.D. – The City of Pierre will be lit up this Friday night along with other communitys in South Dakota in show of unity of everyone fighting the CoronaVirus (COVID 19 Pandemic. Pierre Riggs High School and school district Athletic Director Brian Moser spoke to the Pierre City Commission on Tuesday night speaking on the issue. From 9 to 10 pm Moser would like everyone in the city to turn on their lights at their homes and business to show unity in the fight against the Virus. Moser says idea is a state wide idea and means a lot to him*.
Moser would like all of the athletic fields to light up their stadiums and facilities like he is going to do at the football field at Phil Trautner Stadium at Hollister Field* That would include Hyde Stadium, the baseball field across the street from the Football Stadium as well the Oahe Softball Complex, Little League Fields and tennis courts.
Moser says residents can take a drive and have their lights on if they drive or park. And he says residents can do their parts on their own properties as well* But turning on their front lights, backyard lights, fire pits and more.
The Commissioners voted 5-0 to have the city facilities join in with Moser and the school district. So everyone is encouraged to light up Pierre on Friday night from 9 to 10 pm. There will be a fly over via drone that is being coordinated by Patrick Callahan to video the lights that folks can view as well.
