The Minnesota Twins offense has exploded in the last two weeks, winning six games in a row and seven of their last eight. They extended the winning streak last night thanks to a Carlos Santana a walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6. The streak started last Wednesday when the Twins hung 17 runs on the Rockies. Since then, they have scored at least six runs in every game.
The Twins now hold sole possession of second place in the AL Central, trailing the Guardians by 4.5 games. Minnesota looks to keep up its winning ways tonight in game two of a three game series against Tampa Bay, first pitch set for 6:40 CT.
Before the game, the Twins announced today plans to pay tribute to the life, sacrifice and legacy of Minneapolis Police Department Officer Jamal Mitchell prior tonight’s game at Target Field.
On May 30, Officer Mitchell was shot and killed in the line of duty. At the time of his death, Officer Mitchell had been with MPD for just over a year and a half, and had recently completed his hiring process to join the Twins as a gameday officer.
