The Walworth County Commissioners discussed jail design options with Dean Marske of HKG Architects at their regular meeting on Tuesday, June 25th. Marske told the board that the 32-bed facility is the most efficient at a current cost of $9 million dollars.
Marske said putting a second floor on the 32-bed design would drive the cost up to around $12 million.
Marske gave a brief description on the 42-bed design.
And finally, the 54-bed option, which would cost around $12.3 million currently.
Toby Morris from Colliers discussed passing a bond for construction of a jail.
Walworth County Sheriff Josh Boll would like to keep costs down for the taxpayers and presented his projected plan for running the jail day-to-day.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting:
The commissioners passed a motion to have the chairman sign a contract with the Roberts County Jail for adults at $115 a day and juveniles at $315 a day.
Ted Dickey of Northeast Council of Governments talked to the commission about a grant that is available to help pay for a new cold storage building at the landfill.
The application to apply for the grant has to be in by July 1st. A motion to have the chairman sign it was approved.
The next Walworth County Commission meeting will be July 9th.
