The Pierre City Commission has approved (July 16, 2024) a request to seek bids to do the rehabilitation work on runway 13-31 at the Pierre Regional Airport.
Airport Manager Brian Cowles says the project includes resurfacing, rewiring and new lighting.
Cowles says runway 13-31 would be temporarily closed while the work is being done.
The bid deadline is Aug. 1, 2024. If bids come back favorably, the project is tentatively scheduled to begin next year.
The Pierre Regional Airport had nearly 16,000 commercial enplanements in 2023. Commercial air carrier Denver Air Connection currently has an on-time flight record of 91%. DAC offers 12 weekly non-stop flights between Pierre and the Denver International Airport.
Pierre Regional Airport is home to FBO Mustang Aviation, the State of South Dakota hangar and Avera Careflight, as well as ag and general aviation services.
