The Minnesota Twins are in a close race to claim the AL Central division as they did a year ago. Trailing the Cleveland Guardians by only 3.5 games, every game now becomes more important than the last. The Twins have been able to rely heavily on one thing this year, and that’s their offense. ]
Scoring thirteen runs last night, the Twins gave rookie Zebby Matthews more than enough cushion to secure his first win as a major leaguer. Matthews went 5.o IP, 5 H, 2 ER 0 BB in his debut, and probably felt more comfortable than ever after seeing his offense deliver him three runs in the first inning.
These wins against the Royals not only help keep pace with Cleveland, but it also creates a buffer between 2nd & 3rd place. It helps when a team can continue to look forward rather than looking over their shoulder.
The Twins go for the sweep today in a getaway game before going on the road for a 7-game trip. First pitch is at 12:10 CT, coverage on MLB Network.
