Rawlins Library: A Temporary Closure & September Programming
PIERRE, SD – September brings a large remodeling project to Rawlins Library, as well as a festival, and a book signing from a South Dakota author.
NATIONAL LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP MONTH
If you don’t already have a library card at Rawlins Library, now is the time to get one. Bring in a valid photo ID and a secondary proof of residency to get your card, a free lanyard by request, and access to more than 125,000 books, eBooks, digital magazines, and other items for research and entertainment.
ADULT BOOK CLUB (TUESDAYS)
Sept. 3, 17, & 24 at 6:00 p.m.
To join the club, email rawlinslibrary@ci.pierre.sd.us, call 605.773.7421, or sign up in person. Water and coffee are provided. Participants must be 18 or older.
Storytime in the park
Sept. 4, Sept. 18, and Sept. 25 at 10:00 a.m.
This free event is held Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and includes storytelling, fun songs, and maybe the parachute -a fan favorite. Storytime will meet outdoors, weather permitting.

Sept. 9 – Sept. 13
Rawlins Library will be closed for remodeling between Sept. 9 and Sept.13. While the physical library will be closed, Rawlins will continue to offer reserves and interlibrary loans for pickup, the Libby and Hoopla applications for ebooks and audiobooks, and assistance with patron questions over the phone.
for the thrill of it book CLUB
Sunday, Sept. 15 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The For the Thrill of It book club will read “The Last Thing He Told Me” by Laura Dave. Register for this thriller-genre book club by visiting the front desk at the library or by calling 605.773.7421. Must be 18 or older.
Fall Festival: Fall in Love with Reading at Rawlins Library
Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Bring the family to this free event featuring Skee-Ball, the bean bag toss, a duck pond, a cake walk, and more. Enjoy a free bag of popcorn while you browse the bake sale benefitting the Friends of Rawlins Library. Bake sale items start at $5 per dozen. Event sponsored by a grant from the Midco Foundation.
Book signing and author talk: achut deng
Thursday, Sept. 26, 6:00 p.m.
Achut Deng, orphaned at the age of six in South Sudan, will do a book signing starting at 6:00 p.m., and discuss her book, “Don’t Look Back” at 6:30 p.m. Copies of her book will be available for purchase. Registration is requested by contacting Rawlins Library at 605.773.7421.
