The Walworth County Commission made a decision at their Thursday, October 3rd, meeting to contract with Kevin Thom and Rob Yantis of Cavern LLC in Rapid City to do a jail study. Toby Morris of Colliers Securities said this endeavor will take some time.
The commission approved a motion made by Commissioner Duane Mohr to move forward with the study, which will include details on where a jail would be located and how many beds would be needed.
Highway
Walworth County Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan is planning to de-pave some roads in the county.
Hannan told the commissioners he wants to prioritize the bigger roads.
The commissioners passed a motion to approve the de-paving.
Hannan gave the board an update on the Campbell County projects.
Hannan also told the board that due to costs there will be no Swan Creek highway project this year.
Sheriff
Walworth County Sheriff Josh Boll introduced new deputy James Ryan to the commissioners. Deputy Ryan is from Texas and Sheriff Boll said his academy time might be shortened because of his previous training.
Landfill
Commissioner Mohr reported that the County has received a $30,000 grant for a cold storage facility at the landfill.
Mohr said they hope to get started on it yet this year so they can make use of the building over the winter.
