PIERRE, S.D. – It was a big day for the Pierre Fall Fastpitch Softball team on Sunday as they swept a doubleheader for the first time this season as they defeated Dell Rapids 10-4 and then downed Baltic 8-0 at the Oahe Softball Complex. While the seniors were honored, several juniors led the way in the opening win as Kenzie Gronlund went 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles. Shelby Roman and Megan Switzer also had extra base hits and 3 RBI’s a peice. Gronlund was on the mound striking out 12 and allowing just 1 earned run while giving up 6 hits over 6 innings. In the win over Baltic the Pierre bats remained hot as they banged out 14 hits as catcher Kamden Carter would go 3 for 4 and score 3 times. Allycen Herrman, Kenzie Gronlund, Meghan Switzer and Kaycee Carter would all claim 2 hits a piece while Shelby Roman and Jessi Buntrock would gather a hit a piece. The Pierre JV lost their first game to Dell Rapid 7-3, and lost their 2nd game 9-0 against Brookings. Pierre’s Middle school continues to have a strong season winning two games against West Central 11-1, and Mitchell 11-1. The JV will begin its state tournament in Sioux Falls next Saturday against Winner at 8 a.m. The Varsity will travel to Madison next Sunday for its last double header of the season against Madison and Pipestone, Minnesota.
