If you need to borrow money, ask that friend who’s always puffing on a vape. There’s a decent chance they just came into a LOT of it.
The makers of Juul e-cigarettes settled a class-action lawsuit a while back, and agreed to pay $300 MILLION in damages for not being honest about how addictive and unsafe their product is.
Payouts depend on how many vape pods you bought between 2015 and 2022, and whether you could prove it or not. But a lot of people were ordering them online back then, so they still had the receipts.
Class-action lawsuits are famous for their pathetic payouts. Sometimes, only a few bucks. But this is NOT one of those. Vapers are freaking out on social media after getting Venmo transfers for THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.
The class-action suit was settled in 2022. So most people forgot all about it until payments started going out this week.
It seems like most got a few hundred bucks at best. But several people have posted screenshots showing numbers like $3,000 or more. One person posted on Reddit after Juul Venmo’d them $9,217. (Here’s the photo.)
If you signed up for the suit and haven’t gotten your payday, it might still be coming. They started sending money out last Friday, and it sounds like they’re still not done. Some people who opted for physical checks or gift cards might get those payments later. They say to check your spam folder, just in case.
If you bought Juul products but didn’t sign up for the class-action, sadly, you’re out of luck. The deadline was February 5th.
