The Lake Oahe Project’s West Shore Mountain Bike Trail will close to the public Sunday (Nov. 10, 2024) while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completes a maintenance project to stabilize the banks of the Oahe Dam’s emergency spillway.
The gravel road leading to the primary mountain bike trailhead and a section of singletrack trails located just east of the emergency spillway will be closed. The rest of the mountain bike trail system will remain open and can be accessed from the gravel road to the east or from the overlook gravel road point on the eastern side of the trail system. Construction barricades will be placed on the trail to indicate the areas that are closed.
Additionally, the area along the west side of the spillway will also be closed to public access. Restricted areas are identified in red on the map and visitors should plan accordingly.
The project is scheduled for completion by November 2025.
