For the first time in 7 years, there is a new champion of 11AA football. The Watertown Arrows pulled out a Statue of Liberty trick play late in the game that went for a Spencer Wientjes touchdown to take a one-score lead. A play, and game, that had shades of the Boise State upset over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. The Arrows were able to bend but not break in the final minute of the game as the Govs Elijah Boutchee turned the corner and bring Pierre within one point, but Steve Steele decided to push all his chips to the middle of the table and go for two. The Govs tried to run Boutchee again the same direction but the Arrows were ready for it and made the stop in the backfield. An unsuccessful onside kick left just two victory formation snaps between the Arrows and the trophy.
Watertown was also able to do something not many teams, nor coaches have been able to do, beat Steve Steele and the Govs twice in the same season. But that’s exactly what Arrow’s Head Coach John Hodorff was able to do winning tonight 14-13 and also back in mid-September Junior Markus Pitkin was named the game’s Joe Robbie MVP for his outstanding performance, congratulations to the Arrows for
